Nope, HSS, cast iron, steel, and some other stuff from the shop.

Not worth the gas to drive to the scrap yard...
Even on commercial construction sites I run most of the lower-wage tradesmen ( e.g. demo) don't even bother with steel, HSS brings more but you'd still need a truckload of it.
OTOH, the 500 lbs of bare bright wire I just pulled and scrapped was a nice Xmas preset

Pretty much goes in with the mixed steel...

Yes, HSS and tool steel will bring more, technically speaking, but if it's in small chunks (like ten thousand short little tool bits), somebody's got to analyze and sort each and every one.... And keep 'em sorted as to what's what after that. With a VERY uncommon metal to find at most recycling centers or steel yards, they'll take years make a truckload to get to the next step up the chain. So they can't pay market, so it ends up being a wash.

If you've got train car loads of the same exact material, then absolutely, it's worth more, but it takes a LOT to break through that barrier of practicality.

I buy (lots) of pre ground hss on Ebay. It’s cheap and you get some interesting pieces.

Also excellent way to ease into hand-off bit grinding.
