What Did You Buy Today?

No idea how long Home Depot can sustain this, but free overnight delivery is pretty cool. Like @PHPaul mentioned, HD gives a generous Vet discount, here in WA it pays the sales tax. I tried a set of the new Horror Freight pliers, came in a blister pack. <Shrek> The Channel Lock clones are so loose the channels slide right past each other. Argh. Got some Milwaukee brand that I like from HD along with some clamps mentioned by the Tool Guyd who IMHO does better than average hand and construction tool reviews.

And because my recent table saw incident caught me flat footed with the kit in the main shop, one of these:

Is that one of the “Jewelry Storage” boxes that pop up on FBMP?
No idea. Every time I look at FBMP I just get PO over the algorithm and give up. I did just see Horror Freight has similar for $3 USD less, bottom drawer is larger.
Apparently HF doesn't want customers to share their finds, can't see any way to get a URL. SKU is 72436.

<Smile> The Starrett is still my favorite.
But now I have a pair:
I was never interested in the COMBIMIKES, so I never studied what was available.
It's interesting that one of yours has metric digital and inch conventional scales while the other is vice versa.

I’m mostly Starrett, but picked up a couple of Mitutoyo items after the Raymark auction in the late 90’s; really like the dual reading CombiMikes, which is why I finally broke down and bought the new ones that are own their way.

My Starrett Mechanical Digital is 0 - 25mm, NOS

You do realize that two, 0 - 1” aren’t the same thing as 0 - 2”, right?

I have Starrett 0 - 1” & 1 - 2” Multi-Anvil.

Yes. Not following on what I said, in my far less than perfect communication skills, that made you think I don't. I admit it's not a huge collection, just something I find interesting and watch for.

The one with all the frame markings worn away has 0-25mm on the thimble, 0-1" on the digital read out, the other is opposite with 0-1" on the thimble, 0-25mm on the digital read out. They both have the same literature, stating the micrometers come either way.

Fetish value is the idea that an object or idea has inherent value or powers that are non-material. Fetishism can refer to the attribution of value to an object, or to the object itself. I absolutely have a value hierarchy on my tools based on what I perceive as more desirable from my own fetish tastes. When I open my mic drawers, I'm dizzied by the choices- there are analog-digital mics, vernier barrel mics, metric and standard mics, and they all calibrate to gauges with equal accuracy regardless of continent of origin. But I still seek to expand my collection of Keilpart Suhl micron indicating mics anyway, because, frankly, I just love using them. I see many of us share the same affliction...

My attempt at humor :)

I didn’t zoom in on the pair so didn’t notice: that makes a nice mixed set!

I saw during my eBay search that they came both ways and not sure which part numbers indicate the difference. My 0 - 1”/25mm is digital metric as is the 2”/50mm - 3”/75mm but I don’t know about the 1”/25mm - 2”/50mm as it’s in an unopened sealed new box (fingers crossed that I don’t need to use eBay’s guarantee).

I'd hesitate to say "fetish" since I don't worship them, but they are sometimes in the back of a drawer like a good luck charm, only brought out for special occasions.

I often wonder at my interest in acquiring tools that can measure orders of magnitude smaller than my capabilities to achieve this, and certainly my SPI Bore Gauges, which indicate out to 0.00005":
SPI 13-557-4.jpeg
(only spent $175 on them, otherwise something like this would never be in my collection)

All of my setting rings also go out 5 significant figures to the right of the decimal point; somewhat ridiculous when checking an inside micrometer that reads to 0.001".
