What Did You Buy Today?

I've purchased a Jacobs rubberflex chuck ...

Moon, sun, stars, and planets must be aligned this week!

I've been on the hunt for one of these for 2 years - this mount style is a rare bird. Landed today. Giggity.

To answer your question: I believe they be better than 0.0009". When I first mounted mine: was 0.0025". I then double checked as well as clocked it differently: now is 0.0003"-0.0004". I haven't dug into it further, but that is about what I was hoping/expecting for.

My lathe's spindle nose and face is <=0.0001". How's yours?

And the two CombiMike's referred to in this post:

2–3"/50–75mm (159-213), lightly used:

EDIT: Just got confirmation back from Mitutoyo that they accepted my registering of the new 1–2" CombiMike, so I'm pretty confident it's real.

Tile and sheetrock from the bathroom demo . It did not arrive so it's holding me up . :cussing:
I’m glad all of my remodeling is done…..for now. I found a good use for my Kubota during one of my bathroom demos. Put the loader bucket under the window and tossed all of the trash out the window and then drove to the roll-off parked in the driveway. No carrying everything through the house.

I have been looking at these, thinking about the grade 5 & 8 boxes and a Metric box all US made and I didn't think the price is too bad. There is a scan code on the inside of the lid where you can scan it and order restock items....

Well…I bought this. This is a Dewalt radial arm saw with a 5 hp 3 phase motor that spins a 16” blade, and it will not be a keeper. But it’s pretty cool.

I like Bolt Depot as they have good prices, fast reasonably priced shipping and no minimums.

Nice score! The both look great.
Best wishes on the shoulder. I've had both cut on, one rotator cuff, one torn tendon. In my experience, don't rush recovery. It will just take the time it takes.

I haven't tried to check the spindle nose... it's an L1 long taper nose... I believe it seats completely on the taper, so the face at the rear of the taper is not relevant. I'll have to see what an indicator on the taper tells me.

I have two lathes with L1 spindles... the spindle on the other lathe is in better condition. I'll have to try it and see if it runs better.

Check the forcing cone in the Jacobs chuck to verify everything in the assembly is true to the spindle as a sanity check, and clean the collets of any rust or buildup if you haven't already. I routinely get less than .0005 runout with the setup, usually less. Another thing to try is to partially loosen and re-set the work in the chuck if your initial reading isn't what you want, that can help send things home. I have become a huge fan of the flex collet chuck, it's my go-to for just about anything in it's range and has made my small work 4-jaw collect dust.
