What Did You Buy Today?

I posted this in a separate thread but I'm new to the machining world and excited to learn from the many teachers here. Picked up a Harig 618w surface grinder at a local auction. It is a rack and pinion drive and I've seen many others suggest the cable system is the preferred setup for this.

Thread link for this surface grinder

The good: the ways look nice and it came with an older DRO and nice magnetic chuck.

The bad: the hydraulics were removed so I need to determine if they could be rebuilt.
Wow! The scraping looks like it was just done.

I thought it looked cute

Actually should work good in my very small wood working area. Have a shelf above the bench I'll replace with one wide enough to hold this. Maybe get a couple more or do something similar with the laser.

Got one, in pink, for my wife…

Let me get the story straight… she saw it and asked for it… she already has it full with her stuff.

EDIT: Here is a photo

There was a surface grinder build thread here but it never got finished....
I suspect a surface grinder project is a while away in my hobby machinist journey!;)

The requirements for rigidity and precision on such a build make me not surprised that it never got finished. :)

Is that one of the “Jewelry Storage” boxes that pop up on FBMP?

Hi,
Well, I think I am finally done with this refurb.

Mounted the Grinder on a MDF Base, made a holder for the Wheel Dresser and...

Found a Gentleman to make me a new Label.

Had a lot of fun with this Little Machine, and look forward to using it! label 1 .JPGlabel 2 .JPG
