Annular cutter

Thanks everyone. This helps a lot. The speed chart will be very helpful also.
 
Speed chart infor leads me to think the rate of cut would be pretty fast. @ .003 or 4 per rev per tooth. 12 teeth x .0035 x 200rpm = 8.4"/minute Yikes!! can't be, can it? Even if it is 25% of that it is pretty fast. 15 seconds to go through 1/2" steel. Where am I going wrong?
 
Multiple teeth make a huge difference. Would be quite a different story with 2 flutes like a standard drill. 12 teeth do a lot of work per rev!
 
With that amount of material removal you will need a good way to clear chips like flood coolant.
 
I have a full set from 3/8"to 2" that I use on my mill with a 5/8" collet. Plenty of cutting oil medium pressure, peck to keep the birds nest at a minimum I usually run a round 300 to 500 rpm, depending on the material. The center pin aids in ejecting the slug, it does help in centering the hole when using a mag drill.
