Sandhill cranes are a protected species. Nice picture. Not that common of a bird to see. Sometimes will see them in standing water mixed in with the ducks and geese while they are migrating

At one time a couple Western states allowed hunting them. Been a few years since I checked. Not on my hunt list so I don't pay attention to the regs for them.

that would be pretty sad. we get a lot of these too, but no one shoots them in the neighborhood.
