Best Way to Bore Out Auto Rims

Are the rims hub concentric or lug nut concentric???
This. Matters.

You could zip around the center and lug pat of the wheel with plasma, knock it out, fab up new centers and weld them in. But trailer implies load no matter how small it is, and that's liability, so be careful. You don't want your cash saving mod to kill a family of four in a minivan behind you the day you decide you want to try and haul all the firewood in one trip instead of two. I work for the transportation department, it happens every day.

I don't understand why he doesn't lock the wheel down on the rotary table ( use 2x4s to span it across your rotary table or plywood if needed ) and use a 3 1/2" hole saw that will probably open the hole to 3 3/4" in reality and finish the cut with a roughing mill turning the rotary, DONE

If the wheels use conical lug nuts and seats on the wheel, it’s not hub-centered. If so, just plasma-cut the center.

Hub-centered wheels use flat lug nuts. But even then, if they are properly tightened, the hub centering adds no needed additional strength. Big “if”. But hub centering makes it easier to mount the wheel. We dealt with this on the GMC motor home.

Wheels are stamped and that does work-harden the hub center somewhat.

The reason I don't lock it down on the rotary table is I don't have a rotary table.
Damn, you got a lathe and mill but no rotary table. Use the boring head. just busting chops. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Every $50 milling job requires $1200 worth of tooling.
Yup, we dig our own rabbit holes. Tooling a lathe is nothing compared to a mill.

Still waiting for the 10 in. rotary table to show up sub $300 and within 100 miles.
I can dream, it's almost Christmas.

Very true. When you have an opportunity and if you do see one even a 6 or 8 inch at the right price think about it. It opens the door to so many other ways to pay for it self in the future. Thanks, Charlie
