Best Way to Bore Out Auto Rims

Vs boring it.... what about using a trepanning bit in the boring head, and plunge straight down at the 4.1" Dia?

You can rotate the bar to change the angle.

Smaller depth of cut and slower speed.

Get a hole saw that is close but undersized so you have less to remove.

How much are you trying to take off in a pass? Depth of cut and feed?

Are the rims hub concentric or lug nut concentric???

Do you have any close sized hole saws? Put one the current size of the opening inside one the size you want. Or bolt a piece of wood through the lug bolt holes. Mark center and use the correct size hole saw. Clean up your edges and paint.

No as fancy as doing it in your mill or a lathe, very common for car and truck guys to do it either way.

As you know, Dodge, Jeep and Ford used the 5x5 1/2 bolt pattern for years. Ford had some 16" rims on broncos. Dodge even uses that bolt pattern on 17" rims on their half tons during the late 2010s. Can't tell you exactly the years from memory. They do give it a metric number. Off roaders like the 17" option due to tire options.

Here’s Blondihacks Video on Trapanning on a lathe. On a mill you would just be rotating the bit instead of the part.

Don't forget Jeeps, up to the 90's I believe and 4x4 ford trucks both had 4 .xx dia center opening , my 1980 ford 2x4 does as well.

Yes I have a Jeep and Jeep wheels but the Jeep needs them. The largest hole saw i have is 2 1/2 .
