What Did You Buy Today?

I've been exercising my mental disorders...

"Double trouble at the Bears' Den"

I just rescued two Hendey gearhead lathes from being scrapped. They are both 12" x 30" gearheads, one built in 1940, the other in 1944...

They both came from the same seller... I'm hoping to be able to build one lathe from the pair.

Amazing work that you do. Seems you are becoming a Hendey rescue center!

Sure, I'm expecting to see THREE lathes out of those two! You do amazing fab work!

HGR had them on a 'last chance' sale... they had already dropped the price by $650 each... when I asked about 'package deal' pricing for both, they came down another $150 each. The salesman said they would be scrapped in a few days...

I couldn't let that happen! Lol!

Ummm...

7, actually...

I've started a thread about them in the members projects area.

The ways show wear, but they are significantly less worn than my trusty old South Bend... the wear is not enough to cause me any concern, at least until I actually make some chips. Then I may re-evaluate. I'm guessing not more than 0.010".

The pictures do make both lathes look good... ;)
