What Did You Buy Today?

Not today, but fairly recently:

It needs a bit of a clean and tidy up (the paint work is pretty ugly and not well done). Will replace the base with some cast iron (got an old knackered 10" angle plate that I can chop that will do) and see if I can get a new decent v-belt.

Might see if I can improve the table too.

The motor is a little 120 W DC motor so, I'd guess it wouldn't be much use beyond drilling in wood, plastics, aluminiums and brasses perhaps, too.

Ideally it would be nice to be able to use it as a little sensitive drill for ferrous metals as well. One idea I had was to make some new pulleys to suit a 1/2 HP induction motor I have spare that came from a cheap drill press I got given by a mate. Need to dig it out and check its RPM (think it's something like 1400 or 1700).

Any comments on the latter idea would be appreciated. :)

I posted this in a separate thread but I'm new to the machining world and excited to learn from the many teachers here. Picked up a Harig 618w surface grinder at a local auction. It is a rack and pinion drive and I've seen many others suggest the cable system is the preferred setup for this.

Thread link for this surface grinder

The good: the ways look nice and it came with an older DRO and nice magnetic chuck.

The bad: the hydraulics were removed so I need to determine if they could be rebuilt.
