What Did You Buy Today?

Not today, but fairly recently:

It needs a bit of a clean and tidy up (the paint work is pretty ugly and not well done). Will replace the base with some cast iron (got an old knackered 10" angle plate that I can chop that will do) and see if I can get a new decent v-belt.

Might see if I can improve the table too.

The motor is a little 120 W DC motor so, I'd guess it wouldn't be much use beyond drilling in wood, plastics, aluminiums and brasses perhaps, too.

Ideally it would be nice to be able to use it as a little sensitive drill for ferrous metals as well. One idea I had was to make some new pulleys to suit a 1/2 HP induction motor I have spare that came from a cheap drill press I got given by a mate. Need to dig it out and check its RPM (think it's something like 1400 or 1700).

Any comments on the latter idea would be appreciated. :)

I posted this in a separate thread but I'm new to the machining world and excited to learn from the many teachers here. Picked up a Harig 618w surface grinder at a local auction. It is a rack and pinion drive and I've seen many others suggest the cable system is the preferred setup for this.

Thread link for this surface grinder

The good: the ways look nice and it came with an older DRO and nice magnetic chuck.

The bad: the hydraulics were removed so I need to determine if they could be rebuilt.

Not tool/machine related… but our friends got us hooked on this popcorn from Wisconsin….

She is from Wisconsin and he is from Michigan… I should have said that she got us hooked!!

I tried to hold back… but still ended up ordering 4 buckets… so good, sooo good.

It is for the kids, of course…

We pass through Montfort Wisconsin on an almost regular basis. Every time we do we pick up buckets of popcorn for ourselves and several relatives

For a while we saved the buckets to use for dog food storage when on long term RV trips. We had several dozen

Now that the girls are gone the buckets have by in large gone to the recycle bin When we get some new puppies we’ll start collecting more buckets

Of all the things to be addicted to popcorn is one of the least harmful. No hangover, no withdrawal symptoms, no Narcan, and no recovery time needed. The only downsides are the possibility of needing a longer belt or the next size up jeans.

Yet another food product that I know too much about how it’s made so avoid.

bought this kit today off Ebay, should have it next week. been using one of those crappy chinese cloth hoods with the little rectangular port you try to see out of for the last several years. want to be able to freaking see what I'm doing. this helmet is a NOS discontinued model from what I can tell, but accessories like tear offs and replacement lenses are still available. can't wait to try it out.
