What Did You Buy Today?

hope it's new at that price. yikes.

Hardinge has them listed new for $2000.00+...

I think Hardinge is the only importer... they are the only company I can find that sells the Sjogren chucks new.

Atlas also makes 5C speed chucks... they can be bought new for around $1200.00.

We have both an Atlas and a Sjogren at work... functionally, I can't tell any difference between the two.

The ones in the pic.
Indeed. The standard end caps work very well for horizontal installations, but for vertical installations these are great :encourage:

they are nice chucks. a company named Rovi makes new ones I believe but they are probably more expensive than Hardinge.

I saw one yesterday somewhere for $150 with a full set of Hardinge collets ! I no longer own a lathe , but for $150 . I'll go out and buy one for these to fit !

Still available I think !
that one is for 2J collets, not 5C. I was looking for one of these when I upgraded to my 14x60 lathe but finding one in 5C with an L-1 spindle mount is rare. I have a practically new Bison 5C collet chuck I was using on my old SB 9A I was going to sell but finally ended up putting an L-1 backing plate on it so I'm good now. the L-1 thread is a larger diameter than the chuck though LOL.

I have a buddy who is just getting into playing with machine tools. I found an amazing deal on Marketplace for 4 toolboxes plus a cardboard box full of tools and copied him on the listing. since he's new at this, I agreed to meet him at the seller's house about an hour away to go thru everything with him. it was an amazing score, and I told him he owes me lunch.

there was one old tool that I really thought was cool and kinda raved about it. it was a tiny old Starrett 4" combination square. not anywhere near the coolest thing in the collection and not super useful but I just thought it was neat as hell. told him if he ever wanted to get rid of it let me know.

about a week later I got a package in the mail with the square and a note that said, "I still owe you lunch".

so, not something I bought but something gifted.
