What Did You Buy Today?

Wait, if you weren’t watching my stuff while I was off buying more stuff, who was watching my stuff??
The OLD TIMER sitting in the corner . You know , the conversation with these guys is well worth the trip . I love the old time stories they come up with and I really think they enjoy when someone actually takes the time to hear them out . PRICELESS as Capital One would say . :encourage:

So this arrived yesterday:

Eh, it's a Map-X torch, albeit seemingly quite a nice one.

What I particularly liked though, in the safety blurb was the highlighted (by me) item:

Really!?

Is it conceivable that someone might think this was a good idea and need advising against?! o_O:big grin:

You're always welcome here as usual . Are you moving your shop down this way when you come ? You know where I'm at , moving 3 places at once . Trying to scale down the fort . Not an easy task to try to do 10 things at the same time . 48 years of junk adds up coming from 3 generations of machinists .
Just visiting this next time. But eventually moving everything to the area, including my shop, in a year or two. I know all about scaling stuff down, especially with the estate. It's hard work getting rid of junk. Once the estate is settled then I get to prepare my house for sale. Similar issues, but at a far smaller scale. My house still has unsorted stuff from the estate which I need to plow through. I have to live my life, not someone else's. Occasionally that makes for some tough decisions.

I think the torch would be quite effective for finding leaks! But NOT advisable! Seriously, are people this bad? Or just lawyers?

that does look like a nice torch.. multiple flame types I am assuming.

oh, both. You can't believe the stuff people do , even with the warnings you always get some idiot who knows better.

They'd probably only leak detect once... Seeing the aftermath of a natural gas explosion is sobering. Usually the four walls blow outwards and the roof goes straight up. Generally there's nothing but a foundation left.

Yup, three tips. Damned nice torches. I have a Vortex one, which I suspect is the one @SouthernChap has just acquired. Whenever I use mine I appreciate how good it is.

Still have the colemans blow torch that was purchased back in 1992, plus a no-nonsense, shorty "screw onto the can and undo the valve" blow lamp head from about the same time. Still prefer the shorty over the colemans, but I did fit adapters so I could run the colemans or the shorty on MAPX Gas cannisters. ooh boy that made a difference!

When I was a kid, a guy cleaned his oven with a volatile organic. Needless to say the pilot torched him and the house. Brand new house less than a year old, burned to the ground. I guess he never heard of oven cleaner.

The same guys who would try to pick up a power mower with their fingers under the deck so they could use it to trip the top of a hedge (I’ve seen variations of this 60+ years ago!)
