What Did You Buy Today?

Anybody but me surprised and pleased with their Vevor purchases? The breadth of product offerings is pretty crazy. I recently got a Sauna heater and a Bridgeport power feed. Each were very satisfactory, and certainly priced right. I also got some (4) of their yellow machine skates...but haven't used them yet. They look pretty serious.

They also ship quickly...two day free delivery to me.
Bought a 3hp compressor motor, and a compact tubing bender - Both fine

Big auction score locally 2 weeks ago. This Vidmar cabinet was part of the score. Quick clean and sand, couple coats of machinery gray and ready for another round of service. Need to install the drawer liners today.

You guys really got me this week. This thread is the WORST for reshuffling the shop priority wish list.

First, I checked out a local welding supply store that I've never visited because I usually fly VFR direct to Praxair. The internet said they are a metal supplier, so I thought I'd check them out. Turns out it's almost perfect for my needs going forward. They don't stock big stuff, not a lot thicker than 1/2 for flats, but I can still order it. Lots of sheet precut to 2x4, perfect for my Langmuir, so I picked up some of that in 1/8, 18, and 20 ga. Got 8 feet of 1-1/2 square hot rolled, which is guaranteed to have many new tools inside. Also got some 3/4x1/2 hot rolled bar to make jaw fixing mounts when I get started on building a press brake.

Then, ebbrybody's been talking about Vevor. I've been avoiding it, because it looks too much like an all you can eat Chinese buffet- with all the associated risks. But even I know that some things coming from offshore are satisfactory products. The HF toolboxes are pretty solid, for example. These affordably priced HUOT substitutes look like a safe bet, so I bought a set of nine with my coffee this morning.

I am pretty stoked about these! beavis-and-butthead-headbanging.gif

But I had two cups of coffee this morning. Ol' @Rex Walters and his expounding on the joys of pin gauges this week was the final drop that broke the dam. I've been looking and watching and hemming and hawing for some time, being well acquainted with their use. Then I found a good deal on a set of good enough (ZZ, +0/-.0002) gauges from All Industrial, who can really offer some deep cuts now and again. The State doesn't offer any cuts, though.

Wife out of town again?

A few years ago, when I built my shop, my wife said I needed something on the walls besides white paint.

At some point I scored the five piece Clausing poster set of charts and diagrams and then let them sit the mailer tube for about five years.

Wife and I were at Wally World today and I picked up some cheap poster frames. I decided not to post the fifth diagram of “The Modern Engine Lathe” but it will rest behind one of these other charts until the next owner decides to open up the frame.

In the meantime it will be nice to have some “style” in the shop and a quick reference to some common tables and machining info.

Please report on their (drawers and pin gauges) quality when you've had a chance to inspect and test them. I'm in the market for them as well.

I have the Vevor power feeds,on the Z axis of both mills, and the same ultra sonic cleaner along with one of their mag drills, and a few other things with no issues so far. Was doing some work on the BP today, and had to smile every time I was able to raise and lower the Z at the touch of a button instead of endless hand cranking. Will be adding Y axis PF's this winter. Just received two 39x13x10" aluminum tool boxes from them yesterday. One for the new zero turn, and one for the tongue of the camper. Very happy with the quality for $100 each. Mike

Three new things for the shop:
Gauge block set. (Already have pin gauges)

Bore gauge. Telescoping things work well enough for me but when I'm trying to turn out some tighter bearing fits on repeated items it'll be a little easier.

Finally, a cheap wireless printer, not a classic shop tool, but I've blown dimensions too many times by not having my latest CAD work in hand and either bad handwriting or faulty memory, so this goes in the shop as an important "tool".
