Time is running out (California folk)

That’s one of the big problems when you live in fly over country. For some reason your needs aren’t as important as the elites living on the coast.

In the past we’ve had storms around here that have dumped a foot and a half of snow on us. No problem we just dig our selves out. It never makes the news but when that same storm dumps 3 inches on the east coast it becomes a major headline.

On Edit: sorry copied the wrong post. Thanks RJ for the heads up.

I think you copied the wrong post. ^^^

+1 on Battery landscaping tools, I bought a Makita 36v chainsaw a couple of years ago and haven't really used the gas one since. This year I added a mower, weed trimmer and leaf blower all Makita and all use the same 18v batteries as my cordless power tools so I always have plenty charged and ready to go. The mower has plenty of power and does the whole yard on one set of batteries the blower weed trimmer sometimes need a second battery which takes only seconds to change, much less time than getting, mixing and refilling gas. No pull starting, no cleaning carburetors and no fumes or irritating noise. What's not to like.

We have electric chainsaws and gas, too.

All stihl, the gas one 15 years old, works well, the electrics. One is the bigger home model, and the other is commercial.

The battery is $350.00, and that buys a lot of gas!

We got the home model first as we had a pile of tree pruning that we needed ti clean up, it works well and is easier, no law made us buy it, we just getting too lazy to drag the cord for the corded one and doing short runs means many restarts, we are lazy.

After we purchased them, CA announced rebates for buying similar, but the chainsaw rebate was only for commercial users, or some other reason we did not qualify.

Last year, CA set up for electric cars only at some point, followed by stating cannot charge cars due to power shortage.

Ca is famous for ideas. the problem is they never have a plan first.

They approved a huge coal burning power plant near Hanford years ago.

Coal to come in via rail.

After construction started, someone realized the trains hauling the coal burn diesel and is a source of pollution. Round 1 of protest.

After that, they figured out that coal is dirty. What to do...?

Changed to natural gas, good supply, and cheap.

Now they want to make natural gas not legal!

so do nothing.
Unfortunately, your attitude makes up the majority.
I chose to do what I can, because I produce more waste (CO2, plastic, chemical, toxic) than I should. In order to survive it's just what I must do. It doesn't mean I can't be frugal about what I do.

I try to fix more than just buy the latest thing.
I re-use as much as possible before discarding.
I wish others would, but I can only control what I can control.
I don't try to keep up with the Jones' there's no point, and it's very wasteful.
I wear my pants and clothes until they are unable to do the job. Better clothes become work clothes until they can't do the job.

You do what you feel. But please, don't tell me it's not worth it. You keep in your lane, and I'll keep in mine.
I guess it’s ok to use those battery operated appliances which are made with lithium mined by child slaves in the Congo and cannot be recycled but hey, we are making our planet cleaner.

You are misinformed, Lithium batteries are totally recyclable.

Yes there are some countries with poor lithium mining practices, human rights abuses etc. as are many of the products we consume, made under such conditions... This can and should be changed.

When less than 5% of lithium batteries are recycled, it’s not going to be long before we see the short sided argument of their universal appeal

Is this for real :eek 3:

E: I Googled this and what the heck. I thought Commiefornia was merely an internet meme.

I stand corrected, what I should have said is there is no infrastructure to recycle these batteries. And, the process to recycle these batteries which seems like less than 5% requires high heat. Where does that energy come from? I hope there is an economical and environmentally safe way to accomplish this before another toxic waste catastrophe is created, I’m not hopeful.

As far as mining the lithium, everything I have read over the past few years points to widespread human rights abuses including slave and child labor to mine lithium in third world countries.
