Plans for TouchDRO Plus version.

all i can say is better you than me, i would not have the patience, or respond as nicely, or refrain from hunting them down with a bat. just remember if they cannot take a joke .........!

"Act as a grown up, and that will solve over 80% of your problems..." good advice from your wife but sometimes i just have to break things lol.
Well, chasing people with a bat and breaking things might come in handy for the other 20%
Seriously, though, I've learned to take a walk after getting "one of those emails" before responding...

Yuriy, I'm a bit confused about something related to TouchDRO Plus.

I'm running TouchDRO on both my lathe and my mill using older adapters I've purchased from you (iGaging for the mill and 4-axis glass scale for the lathe). I have a single tablet for both tools and just change app configurations when I switch from one tool to the other, which works very well.

I'm considering upgrading my mill and fitting it with one of your new 4XX adapters that's compatible with TouchDRO Plus but in reading through the activation process for Plus, it sounds like once Plus is activated for the new adapter, the app will no longer work with an old adapter and will return an error. If this is correct, I'd no longer be able to share a single tablet between my mill and my lathe unless I upgraded my lathe adapter to a 4XX version.

Is this correct, or am I mis-reading the documentation?

Thanks.

Hi,
You can't go back and forth between Plus and Basic in the same configuration. You should have a separate configuration for each adapter/machine. You can even have multiple configuration for each machine, but there is a hard limit of 65535 configurations per tablet. As long as you can stay under that limit somehow ;) , you'll be fine.
Regards
Yuriy

Okay, thanks for the quick answer. I figured there had to be some provision for this.

I don't plan to have more than two machines with TouchDRO adapters, so I think I'm safe for a while.

I don't know, emmmm, that may be difficult.

Finally, I've received some messages from people who think that I'm doing some sort of bait and switch, or that I'm screwing them over by requiring them to buy a brand new hardware to run the app.
  • I'm a greedy a-hole
  • I'm a communist who hates freedom and everything that is holy in the world (paraphrasing a bit here for brevity).
I'm treat DIYers as second class humans, which is discrimination
    I'm in bed with China
  • I "probably [eat] my cereal with sour cream instead of milk"
I should go back to Russia and kiss Putins a...s (I was born in Riga, Latvia, my parents are Polish, and I grew up in Ukraine, so going to Russia would be a problem, by the way...).
  • A few others that were more boring...
Yuriy, I'm reading this topic and I can't believe my eyes... although it's been known for over two thousand years: do something good for people - and they'll crucify you out of gratitude... There's also an old Polish proverb: if you give someone a finger, they'll soon demand your whole hand.

I am a retiree, living in Poland, and this is my first microprocessor implementation: I built a DIY TouchDRO according to your free schematic and installed your free application. Using your free instructions from the author's website and also e-mail advice, I started the whole set - thank you very, very much for your many years of gigantic and free work, for me and thousands of similar DIY-ers. I do not use TouchDRO commercially, I have never run after money, workshop is a pure hobby, and also pure pleasure when I see those changing green digits :)

Such behavior as yours practically does not exist in today's world, such people have almost died out - you are probably one of the last***. I bow low!

Very good, and I'm very glad, that you offer PAID versions of TouchDRO, and EARN WITH THEM - may they sell like hot cakes and may you become a millionaire, because no one deserves it more than you!

In fact, I can't imagine that there are people, who have any complaints and even accusations against you, that they even call you names - it's simply totally incomprehensible. Others are just common thieves, who use your work commercially, and yet they have some accusations against you(!) Well, I suppose that they are not people, but who they really are - I won't write here, because I would have to use the worst insults I know (so my post would be deleted).

Once again: BIG THANKS! I wish you health and all the best.

***Post scriptum:

I have a theory about your unique character :)
As you wrote, your parents are Polish - so, you are Polish too. That's the reason and legacy: real Poles are just like that :)

I hope, you all understand me - my English is poor, I use a translator.

There will be a more advanced adapter version next year that will have some additional hardware capabilities beyond those of the TDA-420 adapter or a DIY build. It will come with the same Plus version unlock, but will have more inputs, and some outputs that will be controller from the app. It will cost even more than the TDA-420 adapter. There will also be features on top of the Plus version that will be subscription based (since they will use online services, and those have on-going costs).

Looking at upgrading my Rev. 2.0 - 1.1 adapter. What's your ETA on the more advanced adapter?

Thanks,
Lynn M.

Not "soon". Second part of next year if things go to plan.
What specifically are you looking for that TDA-420 doesn't have?

First and foremost, I don’t want to buy a TDS-420 and then have the upgrade drop (like, I did with the Rev. 2.0:cry:). The possibilities of having additional inputs and then outputs that will allow me to control things. Very cool.

Short term, my two Rev. 2.0 adapters needs the firmware to be upgraded (sent back to you) then I need to add external connections for the tachometer on the lathe and a touch probe on the mill.

Thanks,
Lynn M.
