Tomorrow I am going to look at a used Kurt 3600V, 6" vise. From the photo it looks good. Anything I need to know about these? I am planning on using it on my Bridgeport clone 9x42. Anything specific I need to be careful of?

Edited to add:
I believe he also has a Kurt 675 for the same price. Assuming the same condition of both, which would be a better vise?

3600v doesnt open as far as the 675. But it takes up less room on the table , a feature I like.

Well I'm driving away with a used but looks to be in great shape Kurt 3600 V. There was a work cart full of vices both 3600 V and 675 all the same price. I made the snap decision based on the 3600 being a more expensive product to start With.I gave $275 for the vice with handle and jaws I am hoping a did OK

the plus sides on those are the solid bed+fixed jaw and the ability to lie the vise on its side for funky set ups. $275 seems alright - $250-300 is a pretty normal range for a 6" Kurt

I have had my eye out for a good vise for a bit, since I brought my mill home. I've not seen any up this area (DFW) that the current owners didn't think they were gold plated. I did see a couple with lots of 'apprentice marks' all over in the $300 range. I actually didn't want to buy anything right now, but as they say "strike while the iron is hot". My mill came with a Bridgeport 6" vise, that has seen better days. I knew I would replace it, and I assumed I would spend around $300 on a decent vise. I saw these and knew I wouldn't find a better price anytime in the near or even distant future.

I just ordered a rebuild kit for the vise from Kurt. My plan is to clean it, repaint it, install the rebuild kit and use it forever. Did it need a rebuild kit? I don't know. But for $27, I'm very happy to do it.

ha, I didn't notice that you were in Texas! Pricing here seems to be new for used goods, as they're "saving you the sales tax". You're right, Kurt vises rarely come up around here and even more rarely at the fairly "standard" $250-300. No reason not to rebuild it, at least then you'll know that it's good from the get go.
