Just noticed a change to EBAY

well, my deal doesn't appear to be going through. It appears the seller put make offer, but really didn't intend that. On a $17 dollar item I offered 16.50 per for 9 and he has not accepted, so I think his dragging his feet means he wants full price.. Why put Make Offer if you think 5% is too much.
I thought it was a fair offer, these are older versions..

Whatcha buying Jeff ? I'm trying to figure out this bay site again . They keep changing things making it more complicated to me . :dunno:

Undermount drawer slides for a side board I am making. I have 9 drawers in 3 sections.. They will hold heavy dishes.. The silverware drawers will be done using a slide like the Gerstner toolbox.. Only because I have never done that for a large drawer.. and want to see how it works out. If it doesn't, well, I'll have to redo those drawers.

Why can't people just shoot straight, instead of trying to work the system?
I tend to think that they are the weak, those who are not strong enough nor clever enough to succeed without deception. They are not fast enough to win the race on their own so they throw down marbles to make everyone else fall. The truly clever may still beat you at the game, but that’s because they can see the facets that others can’t or have the confidence that others lack.

Meh, I know when I enter and offer it can either be accepted or rejected. Doesn't bother me one bit if it's "auto-accepted" or the seller accepts it. I wouldn't have made the offer if I didn't intend to pay it so if this is a policy change, it doesn't matter to me.

But I do realize there are people out there who try to "game the system".....always will be those types around.

it's like the buyers who ask if you will take $10 for your asking price of $15,--- and then when you say sure,--- they then ask would you take $8?
when an offer is made I say lay the money in my hand and then I will answer if I will take it. that makes the offer legitimate.

We recently bought something and thought it odd that it took the money in a flash...

Bur we were having a conversation with the seller, just use the contact seller option and have a conversation.

We were bidding on a clock, we only needed a door, and it was active for some time at too igh a price.

We asked about selling just the doors as it was too expensive as it was.

The listing did have the make offer option and had shipping cost.

We haggeled a bit and came up with an out the door price.

Ebay would add tax and shipping to the amount and show the total, we lowered the offer until the agreed price was met and ebay stayed seller refused.

Seller never got notified of offer.

We also notice sometimes ebay suggests offer amount.

Seller closed the listing and relisted with new minimum offer set and we submitted what we had and it was instantly sold.

It does require one to be careful, but it can make for faster action, you still get 5 guesses, but just check to see what the total is.

If too much then communicate with the seller.

Never saw a 5 guesses before, this was the first. In the past it only had make an offer. Years ago they would show what the history of the selling price was. I would offer a middle value, not looking for the lowest price, just making in more palatable. I was always amazed it was refused. I would up it and it would be refused again... But I know they had sold it for much lower.. So I don't understand sometimes.

Years ago maybe 2014, a guy had an item for way more than it should have been. I offered a slight amount less, and he refused. No one bought it. He relisted it for much more, and it sold .. Some people are either on the fence and when it is unavailable panic and buy the next time, or they think it's better if it's more.

I thought bids and “best offers” were legally binding and non-retractable unless you were outbid or if seller rejected your offer. And no payment until you won the item. But, I haven’t used ebay in quite awhile, so haven’t kept up with the latest playground rules.
