I just put in a "Make an offer " bid on ebay. In the past you paid after the offer was accepted if you wanted to continue.
Now they make you pay up front.. if the offer is accepted it goes through. You have a limited time to retract before it's accepted.

I understand why, it just caught me off guard. Just saying, not complaining. I have a feeling many people didn't follow through on their offers.

I can see that. Probably lots of weirdos doing the tire-kicker thing and offering two bucks for something but couldn’t care less if they get it or not. Then turning down the sale if the offer was accepted.

I don't like it. Before I had a chance to talk to the seller before paying. I've made offers that limited the cost of shipping per the buyer's estimate but ebay charged the full listed amount when the offer was accepted. In the past, those things could be worked out before your money was gone. Dave

That is correct Jeff . My son sells daily on the bay . People make offers and then back out . He just said that a credit card is billed directly if an offer is accepted to protect the seller . My guess , if you make an offer , be prepared to go thru with it .

You have an option to contact the seller before making an offer. If you are negotiating the shipping cost, reduce your offer by the desired amount.

that's what I did, the seller was asking for $15+ per slide shipping on KV drawer slides. I asked him ahead of time for a shipping price on 9 sets. And before I knew it I was making a 10% lower offer since I was buying many sets. But I was worried I was losing the shipping that he offered me. I didn't lose it.
But I was concerned.. Again, it makes sense why they are doing this, they are helping the sellers avoid the bogus offer, so that they don't need to respond to people who are not serious.

I have had that happen where you put in an offer an it is immediately accepted. I am not an eBay seller, but there is probably an automatic option as to a minimum amount that will be accepted (i.e a reserve price), of your offer it within that range it goes through but low balls do not. I also see where when submitting an offer it gives you amounts so say if it is a $16 item it will show you $14 or $15.

This does not work under the new system. When sellers goof the shipping cost, they get a bonus. Once the offer is made, you are locked in to the seller's predicted shipping. Believe me, I paid the cost of this a number of times this year.

I don't sell on ebay, so I don't know how shipping works. But there are a few sellers who price shipping at a premium. some are twice others.. one guy is asking $76 shipping on an item others are pricing at $16.. one guy I will never buy from is famous for inflating shipping.
