Looking for ideas, I have about 10 AXA toolholders now sitting on a shelf, I am moving my lathe top add a DRO and to make room for a Bridgeport mill I bought, I am also finishing the walls in my workshop...so everything is on dis-array now. When I get it all back together I want to store the toolholders better.
I also have a full well-equipped woodshop in the basement also, so I was thinking of making something out of MDF?

Looking for ideas please...

Currently I have a drawer under the lathe that holds the tool holders and collets etc. In the drawer I have a metal box that holds the holders seperate from the others.
In the picture you see some shallow drawers behind the lathe, This holds the different tools by size, 1/2" in the first 3 drawers then 3/8" next and so on. Just under the tail stock end of the lathe you can just see a drawer. Below that drawer is another just like it and that holds the holders.

It's drawers for me. Most of the small holders fit in this drawer:

Bigger holders, knurling, threading, etc., go in two other drawers.

To keep the holders in order in the drawer, I made up a lot of these little modular plates with dovetails to fit the holders - here's the one for boring bars:

I made individual boring bar holders for each size bar.

It could have been, I remember him having them on top of the tool cart too. And in drawers. it was some collection.
I remember Frank Ford I think, he used to have a decent website and I think videos.

I like to keep my tool holders above the lathe where I can just grab the next one. I came by a piece of Unistrut and had salvaged some aluminum angle. Cut the angle into pieces that fit the dovetail on the holders, rounded the corners for easier sliding on. Screwed the angles to the Unistrut. Used the mill's DRO to space all the pilot holes. It has worked well for BAX. There are still a few empty slots but I just ordered a few more holders from PM.

I made a stand with a swivel arm and concrete filled base. Should have made it bigger! My collection keeps growing

Much like Pedentrem, I keep mine in a wooden drawer under the lathe. It keeps dust/chips out of the dovetails between uses. It makes for easier cleaning between uses.

I 3d printed holders that then attached them to 80/20 structure that is bolted to the wall behind the lathe. I also have an LED light on the 80/20 frame. The 80/20 is easily expandable as I get more holders and tools.210102_G975U_10102_355.jpg210102_G975U_10102_356.jpg210102_G975U_10102_358.jpg210404_G975U_10404_403.jpg
