I have brand new brazed carbide parting tool. It is useless because I broke the brazed insert even before using it. What I need to know is whether I can braze a used and reground or new indexable carbide insert onto the holder? Are these inserts completely tungsten carbide or only coated? Any other ideas what I can do apart from buying a new one because I do have another indexable insert holder. My indexable insert is sometimes just too short. Thanks in advance for any info.
Regards Chris

Silver solder works great . Inserts are solid carbide , not coated . Save your scrap inserts , they are worth $10 per Lb.

If you were to regrind a carbide insert there is the chipbreaker , radius and rake issue (pretty difficult to get right). Also need a diamond wheel. stefan Gotteswinter has a video: toolgrinding: radius groove inserts.

I have been silver soldering carbide to make turning tools , bore bars, cut off tools, groove tools ,and often using old dull inserts soldered to solid carbide rounds for heavy duty boring tools for over 50 years . Now it is much easier with
Diamond grinding wheels but in the old days I did it with green grinding wheels.
Some of these tools have been used for years.
After thinking about it I made special tools this way before I went into the army in 1958.
