2023 Pass Around Box Mega Thread

I was thinking about this over the weekend. I’m wondering if this has been flagged for repeat activity. Many of us have been on the list for several years now. It’s possible the package was flagged for inspection and that is the real hold up.

X-Ray = nothing of interest here. Only takes minutes, not 18 days.

If they open it some of them would have a real problem trying to pack it all back in the box. It may even take them a long time to figure out how to open it.

Ray, it's a metal box, with lots of metal in it.
I am sure that xray had a problem discerning it's contents.

I found (here) the following on the web: "X-ray, on the other hand, will inspect the product and can detect not only different metals but also plastic, stones, or bone fragments as well as filling levels, broken parts, missing items and even fat, based on the differences in density."

Perhaps I should have written "noninvasive methods".

If the question is "Is it dangerous or illegal?", I suspect non-invasive would answer the question.
If someone needed to take inventory . . .

Maybe a label on the box explaining what it's about and contact info for someone who can explain further if needed.

but Ray, that doesn't answer the question of an XRAY seeing through a metal box, with many pieces of metal. Yes XRAY can detect metal, and see it, but can it see through all the different materials. That is not answered by the link.

if so I missed it. I know they use xray for weld checking, but that is basically having an emitter on one side of the weld and a receiver on the other side looking for a trace of the ray poking through.

So Ray, what say you about the X-Ray.. ? is there something that says it can go through multiple layers of metal.. I would think each layer diminishes its ability. But I don't know.. maybe it can see through many layers. Certainly less dense metals like AL would be visible through layers.
But starting with SS, then HSS, and Cast Iron, and some carbide?? I just don't know..

I'm not an X-Ray expert. It's clear that I SHOULD have written "non-invasive".
I'm also not an expert on the processing/screening routinely performed by the USPS.
However, I'm pretty sure that packages are routinely non-invasively screened for contraband and the screening adds very little time to processing.
IMO, the PAB is only exceptional (non-standard, uncommon, suspicious) due to it's weight and it's durability.
The durability only becomes conspicuous due to the weight.
If the weight didn't rise to the level of "exceptional", the PAB would pass smoothly along with the other 20+ MILLION packages per day processed by the USPS.

IMO, the 18 day delay was punitive in nature, caused by a person with a bad attitude (and/or a weak back).
It's possible that it took some time to fly Richard Caruso in, to take a look, but I doubt it.
