2023 Pass Around Box Mega Thread

I just called in, he's not in right now. Just trying to get a response or light a fire.

I would love to get into this pass around box on a one way ticket ........................outbound ! I would need at least 2 tractor trailers for delivery . :)
Sorry Dave, I'm retired now!!

so as suspected, the local postmaster is sitting on his hands.
I called, he didn't return the call, said he sees that I entered a missing package.. I told him that was the case when I first spoke to him.
He said there was nothing he could do, that trying to talk to someone at the big center was difficult. I reminded him he told me he would reach out to them. I then said it seems like the missing package search and his efforts were useless. He took exception to that, and I said well Phil, you said you were going to do these things, and now you are telling me you didn't, and that it would be difficult... "I'm sorry you feel that way"...
BS BS BS. I feel like they sit there laughing.. I almost feel like the package is sitting there, even though he says differently.

If we get the box back or have to start a new one... We might think about incorporating an Apple AirTag into the box. It could give us our own potential means of tracking it separate to the word of others.

"I'm sorry you feel that way"...

As he stares longingly at his new door stop.

In all seriousness, you got a phone number that you can send me? Maybe if he hears it from others he will be inspired to remove his elbows from the counter.

That’s a great idea.

Maybe we have a rethink on the whole program. Someone mentioned a bunch of smaller boxes, themed or targeted at projects?

That was me.

If there's enough interest we can try to find boxes that will fit inside small or medium flat rate boxes. Commercially available so we don't have to build something special and worry too much about it getting lost.

This way we're not constantly struggling with USPS folks who don't want to/can't lift our box.

Also, if we come up with themes like [taps & dies] [drilling] [measuring] [HSS bits] folks could sign up for things they need, or have too much of.

Just a thought....

John

I think an Air Tag might not work with the SS box.

It would definitely need to be something we test. I would expect we would not get the full distance of detection (~150ft).

It could also be integrated in to the wall/lid of the box. The great box (now missing) that Bryan made had a thicker Lid which might be thick enough to incorporate an AirTag.

I do know, my friend, who own's a plumbing company, has a had decent luck placing them in steel tool boxes. The last two times their tools and equipment got stolen, he helped the police track the equipment and they caught the buggers!

If the carriers don't follow the "this end up" label pointing the tag skyward, it may as well be inside the faraday cage box.
