Okay we have a "What Did You Buy Today?" thread but I think given that many of us are incorrigible scroungers/salvagers/upcyclers I think the topic deserves its own thread.

Just before Christmas I was in the post apocalyptic surrounds of my local town centre, and I spotted a bit of a fly tip situation on the concrete foundations of the demolished community hall.

Took a poke through and found 10 metres of safety rubber cable trunking (I cut off 4 metres and left the rest):

I also found a square of about 2 metre by 1.5 metre non-slip 3 mm anti-slip/anti-fatigue matting:

Needs a bit more of a clean but it's down!

Finally, a barely used first aid kit:

So what have you found, picked up, or even 'liberated' recently.;)

LOL . Just came up from the original shop . What didn't I find would be the question . Anyone into chain tools ? Hydraulic fittings ? Drills ? Reamers ? 3 42" boxes full of everything and anything . End mills next on the list .

I would normally say if it's from your own property, it doesn't really count, but given you have so much stuff you are only dimly aware of owning (if you are aware of owning it at all), I guess you can be given a break! :p

So , what does the site feel about the price of 1/2" end mills ? NOS USA made . You think $10@ is a fair price ? Maybe $15 for for roughers ? Got to get a feeling here as I'm sitting on quite a few . I just figure to start out with the 1/2" and adjust price for size differences . :dunno:

because you asked….
I repurposed an aluminum heat sink from a vfd ( that had blown up years before) and its 24vdc cooling fan to make a low power, 2 speed , air circulator to be plugged in near the fireplace.

I took a DPDT maintained contact toggle switch, created a voltage divider from a 100 ohm 1/4 watt resistor and a 220 ohm 1/4 watt resistor , for 16.5v no load potential.
It was connected to the DPDT switch low speed (16.5v) side of the switch and jumped to the high speed (24v) side of the switch. A 1 amp 24v power supply was connected to the center terminals (respective of polarity) .
The fan 2 fan leads were lengthened and connected to the high speed (24v) terminals of the toggle switch .
I 3d printed a very simple mount for the toggle switch, and insulated a small section of the heat sink from the toggle switch and glued a remnant piece of 3d raft from a previous print, to the heat sink.
I drilled and tapped the heat sink to mount the switch and put it all together, here’s the end result!

In low speed mode the fan whine is barely audible due to the reduced speed.
in full speed the whine is noticeably louder, but tolerable in close proximity.
I’m currently testing the air flow into an adjacent room, so far it is working!
"No thread's intent survives contact with other forum members"

I guess salvage from your own property is fine too!:)

If it's new old stock and unused, I reckon $10 would be reasonable but I don't know the US market really.
