What Did You Buy Today?

Just scored an older Craftsman bench grinder. Also a Craftsman cross slide with the vise. I went for the grinder $40 and he had the cross slide for $15. I already have one but for $15 I had to grab it. I will be cleaning these up this nice long weekend.

I've got one of those Craftsman grinders, love it to bits, real work horse. I've had it for 7 or 8 years and used it heavily.

As for the cross slide, clean it up, get it working nicely and maybe even a lick of paint and that will go for GOOD money on ebay, especially with the little two piece vise. I sold an incomplete one of those for $50 many moons ago.

I am in the process of cleaning it up. Just rust removal. The paint is in ok shape. The X Axis was really tight. I removed the gib and was able to remove it. Some knucklehead put a washer under the nut. Binding the screw and nut when assembled.

I will make the floating jaw as it is missing. The screw cover is also missing. That is a non issue for usage. I might make a few with V shapes vertically and horizontally to hold round stock.

I've been trying to score a nice arbor press for a while now and I guess it was finally my turn! I've bid on quite a few at auction and never gotten one. I've also looked at quite a few that lived hard lives and weren't what I was looking for. I really want a floor model, but this is probably the next best thing and if I ever get a floor model I won't have to work hard to move this one. It's a Dake 2-1/2 that doesn't seem to have seen much use. No hammer marks on the top of the ram and everything seems to work. I'm probably going to make a small table for it (something like 2x2ft) since every time I'm using my shop press I'm looking for a place to set things. If the paint was a bit better I'd probably just clean it, but it's pretty gritty so I'm planning to do a cosmetic refresh at some point.

Similarly, I've kept my eye out for a deal on an Aloris QCTP and managed to get one at a local auction with a decent pile of tool holders. All of the tool holders are Aloris but one of the boring bar holders is a Dorian. I've had good luck with the import Bostar QCTPs but my thought was if I could manage to get the real deal in good used condition for about the same money I'd jump on it. There were also a couple of Carbaloy turning tools, a Kenametal cutoff holder and parting blades with the parting blade holders. Everything needs a good cleaning and a couple of the holders need new height adjusting studs, but otherwise no issues. The tool post needs a new bolt/flange nut and tee nut, but those are easy.

I bought a cheap Chinese 4mm broach. Just the cutter.
I need it for my stepper conversion on my lathe/mill combo.
I don't even have the broach guide/collar. It's going to be a one use item so I can make a guide pretty easy.
