What Did You Buy Today?

Its sarcasm with an injection of fact, in the world in which I function, offshore oil and gas exploration (drilling rigs), Safety is big business. We are required to have safety certs and training before we leave the bank and doing something stupid can get you dead or fired because , as a general rule, stupidity never stops a one injury/fatality.
Sorry, too much in a hurry to post and missed the emoji off the end that indicated the intended tone. Hang on, I'll edit. ;)

My biggest problem with my prescription safety glasses is forgetting to take them off when I leave the Shop and having to go back and put them where they live.

nor a multiple people injury , or fatality.
Just look at the BP rig that blew up. Stupidity on the part of the idiots pushing to go faster, even though pressure was building.

The sad part about Macondo (BP) is they had a great deal of warning. Sure they were such a hurry to get finished they didn't take care of the safety systems; but, when you are receiving flow from a cemented well you do not offset 6000 foot of riser from 16.5 pound per gallon mud to 8.33 per gallon seawater. that was the final straw and without the additional head pressure to hold it down the formations came to the rig in a predictable manner and 11 guys paid the butcher's bill.

A friend has a big tool yard sale spring and fall and I bought this little generator. I was not remembering my Ohms Law in my head when I bought it. I thought the little Hondas were 1000 watt, but they are 2000 watt. This one is 1000 watt(8.3 amps). At least in the rolling blackouts I can have coffee.

So I happened to have a 1 1/2 thick ShopTop that fits this thing PERFECT ! I'll clean both up and mount a small vise on it . The daughter could definately use this with her crafts . 3 more things to leave the garage also so what a bonus for me ! :cheerful: Great idea Mr. Guru . Thanks !

@mmcmdl

Thank my late step-father who was a master carpenter and a "waste not want not, find an alternative use for it" specialist ;)

I have my own special way of seeing one thing and visualising it as something it was never intended to be. I call it "lateral thinking" or "thinking sideways".

I damn near gouged out my left eye when I was 16 trying to remove a C clip from my car axle. After the trip to the emergency room for a few stitches, yeah I been EXTREMELY safety conscious ever since.
Probably better to have internally embraced the "always wear safety glasses whenever the situation calls for it" message before ending up at the hospital though, yeah?:grin:

So I usually just use a 2x4 to squeeze in the jaws, that way I can use the functionality for other things. I have 3 table tops that I can put in the vise jaws. Makes it more versatile.
