What Did You Buy Today?

I get the real stuff at home Depot or Lowe's. You do have to read. But it changes all the time.
They no longer have zinsser sanding sealer in stock. And to boot its labeled hazardous on some web sites. It's used as a coating on pills, not sure why it's hazardous. It's dewaxed shellac.
We're 4 hours round trip from any of those big box stores. We have a SW in town.

Yeah, I don't know why they're 'Cracking down' on everything. Maybe it's to start making guys like me feel old... :)

Until your stock runs out, and you need to replenish it. That's when you learn the "Low VOC" movement has hacked away at the retail chain to the point you can't get what you used to buy...

After that, the gallon of Ale would have been appropriate! lol.

I generally use a specialist supplier for the more specialist products (Celly, D-Thinner et-al) and is just one reason for the "buy by the Gallon" motto I have held for so long. I always order a new gallon when I crack open the "spare" can with certain products (one open in use, 1 spare at all times)

I do find turps expensive though at approx $117USD per UK Gallon, so tend to go easy with that stuff.

Locally (well an hour's drive) the Sherwin Williams has several residential retails stores, and one industrial store. I have an account at the industrial store, saves quite a bit on the cost of a gallon of oil based enamel. For house paint, Menards is a 5 mile drive, and they still stock mineral spirits, acetone, toulene, etc.

picked this up today. just did a 3rd pulley super low speed drill press project on my 46 Delta 17. got this to check the RPM's. this thing is old, Swiss made and doesn't have a scratch on it. barely used. I think the big rubber wheel does FPM. would almost bet the rubber tips are real rubber plant rubber. no deterioration I can tell after all this time. will try it out tomorrow.

I used to live right near 13th and Arch. Crazy.

The shellac used to coat pills (most now use a cellulose solution instead of dissolved beetles) is called Confectioners Glaze (also used on M&M’s and similar candies) and is Food Safe when used as intended. It is hazardous due to flammability and it is dangerous to drink.

I occasionally still see it in the ingredients, that and carnauba wax (very common).
