Ray you must visit the knife making sites. There are numerous articles on heat treating steel and plans to built heat treating ovens.

Hi... Thanks for the suggestion. I finally found some good books on the topic and have read them cover-to-cover (a couple times each). I visited several forums prior to that and discovered a lot of information which didn't seem logical and the advise from one place to the next was very different.

Anyhow, I have since experimented a great deal with a variety of metals with great results. The fact-based, scientific information in the official books published by the steel industry standards organizations are my guiding light...
