I wonder if the height of the rock is the big issue. As you approach it, it disappears from view below the fender. A lot of people are poor judges of these low obstacles. At the USNWWC they use boulders to demarcate the parking and people hit them all the time.

Iron posts with concrete fill, 12 inches in diameter and at least six feet high, should cure most of it. Paint it with yellow and white stripes. Shouldn't disappear from the field of view. In the morning, you will see who is there, because if they hit that, they are stopping. Classic bollard.

I dunno, I see vehicles nigh daily with red or yellow bollard bruises on their flanks from failing to negotiate a drive-thru. You can always tell when the insurance company won't cover it, so they just keep driving it like that...

I like the idea of a bright yellow pole standing up out of the rock.

Honestly, I’d probably be trying to imagine a solution that didn’t require my actions to change the behavior of an unknowable group of humans. We’re notoriously difficult to manage.

But if that is even an option, it’s probably only the guy on site who could dream it up.
