Need a gantry crane for a one time use.

I like the idea.
but
A 3 ton lull weighs a bit over 20,000 lbs. add several thousand pounds of trailer to hold it and a big rock and you are talking getting close to 30,000 lbs. My truck would never move that more than a few feet let alone a 700 mile round trip.
Rent the Telehandler local at both ends? Major rental yards will deliver.

I just read through this thread, I had several ideas along the way, they have all been mention. Even my smart a** unloading comment.

My one suggestion on moving the rock is to hire a local dirt contractor at both ends of the project.

My other thought is to save on real-estate and the hassle of getting the rock is to install a steel post like your neighbor has... Scratch that idea, then you will have to strighten the pole ever time someone hits it.

Good luck man!

Well they did it again.
Moved the 400 lb rock about 3 feet.
IN the second pic you can see the black that was left on the rock. I bet that left a mark on whatever hit it.

These pics were taken at night, shows how well lit the corner is.

I need a BIGGER rock.

funny, right across from the high school up here is someone putting up a stone pillar for the mailbox. I don't know why, could be decorative, or preventative.
That is illegal here and I believe it's a USPS policy. They need to easily break away if someone hits your mailbox post.
