Hi I'm new to Hobby Machinist, I have both a 7x10 Grizzly mini lathe and a Micro Mark brushed motor (but with a belt drive mod) mini mill.

Unfortunately I just moved and when I went to use the mini mill the power came on along with the cooling fan, but when I turned the pot to spin up the spindle nothing happened and the yellow light turned on. The spindle turns freely so there is no overload situation.

Can someone either suggest troubleshooting steps or point me to a troubleshooting guide?

The yellow light comes on when there is a “fault,” usually an overload like leaving the spindle lock in place or shutting off with the E-Stop and not resetting the speed control back to “0” before powering back up.

Here’s a guide for the SEIG X2D, which has a brushed motor, possibly similar to your MicroMark:

MicroMark has been helpful with questions I have had on some of my equipment, and even though it’s not from LMS they are knowledgeable and open to helping everyone.

Hi and welcome.

Hope you find a quick fix for your problem, here's another resource to check.

LMS has a troubleshooting guide for variable-speed lathes. The motor controller for older-style mini mills is similar so the guide could be useful. It can be found here.

Unlike the current crop of mini lathes, mini mills don't have chuck guards with interlocks so that stuff isn't going to be relevant.

Best of luck, and let us know what you find. You never know, your experience could help someone else out.

my LMS mill started giving fault lights,, replaced the cheap spade connectors of the power cord with wire nuts,, also some of these mills do not like GFI's if you are using one try another outlet without..

Turn the speed control to 0 and cycle the power off then on. It may reset the controller

I recently had this issue with my mini mill.
If you have not done so yet
Take a look at the condition of the brushes in the motor.

And if you get one?
Be careful with that Red Ryder BB Gun.
You could shoot your eye out o_O
Merry Christmas
