Looking for a "break in" oil

Older motor cycle motors did not have modern day spin on filters, and although newer motors run synthetics, I was always told that they should not be used for break in with older motors. I would recommend just a straight viscosity non-detergent oil for break in, as others mentioned detergent oils are used with engines that use an oil filter.
