Lathe for Suppressor and general use

Re: Lathe for Suppressors and general use

a mill would be a bit of a necessity for an xd or most pistols , unless you enjoy making file jigs and hours and hours of hand work .and unless you have a want for something you cant buy it is not worth the effort when you look at what something like a new bar-sto conversion barrel costs .

the exception is wanting to be able to say .. yea i made that

Re: Lathe for Suppressors and general use

Be wise to check out this 12x36 . I have one bought and its on the loading dock waiting for a truck. This can be tuff time to ship things. Trucking shuts down little thru holiday's. I don't blame them. Time for family. That said by guy worked most of the Holidays. Any way give PM Lathes a look. A lot of happy owners over there. Its said it one of the better china lathes. Or for few bucks more Matt will sell you Highest Quality Lathe, Made in TAIWAN
Taiwan I read are a lot better fitted lathe. I read China parts but better fitted?

Re: Lathe for Suppressors and general use

I don't know what I would use a mill for in threading and chambering a barrel. Everything can be done on a lathe.
Dave

I meant for the ( forgive me for not knowing the names) sides on the barrel as well as the thinkg that the spring rests on. I really cant see how a complete barrel for an XD would be done on a lathe.

Ive been really looking into mills and CNC kits, and now im wondering should i even bother with a lathe. Im so lost on what to get now, though a lathe would be all i needed to do cans/barrels (pistol). I know i should get a book and read, but honestly i dont have time to.

Re: Lathe for "S-word" and general use

I think the moderator should remove all these posts. The S-word and G word used together are going to get a lot of people "looked at". Someone correctly posted earlier that "if it can, it is". Only way one technically isn't is if it is an integral part of the airgun, and once removed cannot be reassembled to fit a real gun. And if you have a "S"er, and you take it apart, however many parts it comes apart in is how many counts you'll be looking at being charged with if it isn't registered and tax paid. Each part of one is considered to be one. Even legal owners of them cannot disassemble them even to clean or repair, they have to be sent back to the factory.

ALSO! if you are a fellon, and you have an airgun with one on it, if the ATF decides to come after you, you will be charged with possession of firearm, because an "S" is defined as a firearm by the ATF

So essentially you are saying that we should refrain from holding a perfectly legal discussion for fear that the government will "look at" us.

Ive already gotten looked at when i submitted my F1. Just trying to get some info, for that matter mightest well take down all these sights.

Not sure if you moved the thread or not but if I where you I would stay away from Chinese lathes. Wait a little longer and you can pick up a very nice machine even if you have to drive a little. Not sure on your location but I've seen many nice newish clausing and southbends around 1980s vintage machines for $2000 all ready tooled (beautiful clausing on atl craigslist right now). For $1500 I picked up a nice 1973 American pacemaker but that's way bigger than most want but just saying. Any lathe will cut titanium just depends how fast you want to cut it. Pm for silencer info if you like.
Thanks. Good info.

Nothing said here against color of the law. I'm willing to bet no one here would do anything with out the proper paper work. Another thing we got to start acting like free men. They cannot put us all in jail for our free speech. No hate or unlawful talk being done here. There places over sea's you have to have a can to hunt. Face it will save your ears. Could look at a can as a safety device?
