Lathe for Suppressor and general use

Re: Lathe for Suppressors and general use

If i can do what i need to do between the center then i see no need for a bigger bore. Looking at a used 4003, i think its a good price.

You're not gonna be able to do much between centers on a can. Most of that fabrication is boring and internal threading, neither of which can be done on centers. Doing these operations with one end in a steady is doable but can lead to rigidity issues when machining harder metals with carbide. Using a steady on one end is also a lot slower than using just a 4 jaw as with a steady you have to center the part radially then also indicate it along the length of the bed to make sure there's no taper. I sometimes do this with parts bigger than the 1 9/16 spindle bore of the 4003G but it's tedious. I have the G4003G and it's very suitable for what you're looking to do. Good luck.

I do air guns too ha I shoot a steyr lg100 and it will put ten shots in one hole at 10 m if you try I routinely hit in the upper 90s in prone on a 10m rifle target. I've never delt with silencer because most guns I've heard are not too loud but are some so loud that silencers are needed?

i have a g0602 , and i happen to love it .
that being said , i would not recommend it for what you are wanting to do , size wise its plenty big for making cans , but its not at all suited towards rifle barrels , spindle threw hole is to small and it is just to short @ 22 inches between centers and youll find its actually more like 21 inches and some change of useable space .

as to the change gears ... eh it takes 5 minutes to swap out gears , not a big deal for me

I have had a little bit of a quiver for years, and shooting a 1 hole target is difficult for me.

Ah nice, do you shoot 3P or just prone? With my FWB 700 Alu I hit 587 last week (3P.)

Might be my New Yorker's paranoia working, but the phrase "If anyone has made cans on here" sounds like a fishing expedition. You have my apologies if that was written in innocence.

I admit the idea has intrigued me, but I've never actually tried it, it being illegal on so many different levels in the People's Republic of New York. If I ever move to a free state, I may actually do the paperwork and cough up the tax -- but not for now.

What about for Pistol barrels? Im thinking more along buying 1 9mm barre blank and trying to make some threaded barrels for my XD's. Ill probably need a mill so im looking at those right now too. Can pistol barrels be done without a mill?

I don't know what I would use a mill for in threading and chambering a barrel. Everything can be done on a lathe.

I shoot three position but we grade each target out of 100 so 300 in total.
