Lathe for Suppressor and general use

I do air guns too ha I shoot a steyr lg100 and it will put ten shots in one hole at 10 m if you try I routinely hit in the upper 90s in prone on a 10m rifle target. I've never delt with silencer because most guns I've heard are not too loud but are some so loud that silencers are needed?

Silencers on PCP's make a big difference. On spring air rifles you still have noise from the piston so the suppressor works to some extent but can't quiet the action of the rifle itself.

With a PCP the way the supressor works is very different from that of a powder burner. On a powder burner the suppressor cools the gasses and the need for creating inverse sound waves for cancellation of sound wave forms is secondary to efficient cooling.

On a PCP, the gasses are cold already as per Boyle's law P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2, where the increase of volume on release of the gas results in a temperature drop and pressure drop. The moderator therefore focuses on volume and and irregular surfaces to create inverted wave forms to cancel out the sound.

Re: Lathe for Suppressors and general use

I meant for the ( forgive me for not knowing the names) sides on the barrel as well as the thinkg that the spring rests on. I really cant see how a complete barrel for an XD would be done on a lathe.

If you are thinking of cutting out an entire barrel assembly, using a 1911 barrel as an example (not familiar with an XD barrel) to cut the bottom locking lugs, barrel hood, slot for the barrel link, throat/feed ramp etc you would need to use a mill to get the barrel to fit (rough fit).

If you were only wanting to thread the end of the barrel you would just need a lathe.

On a side note, and not trying to be a jerk
As far as what is or is not legal regarding silencers the best place to start is with the ATF. The ATF's FAQ page for silencers at https://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/national-firearms-act-silencers.html, answers several questions and references for the answers are provided if more information is needed. Or give them a call, they are there to answer questions not just break down doors. The ATF is going to have the most accurate information about what is and is not legal.

Thats exactly it, not to sure about where to begin. CNC would probably be required, I dont think I could do other wise. Does anyone have experience on this matter?

No I want to add a clausing to my shop. But the pacemaker is great the china lathe are well useable. The pace maker is much better even with its problems which are all non major like slight worn cross screw and bad compound .
