It is an attempt at knurling, that did not come out as well as on the brass lid of the first box. Due to the distance from the chuck and dimensions, It was as deep as I could go. I was winging the creativity part. It is only for "artistic" purposes, because it offers no practical purpose where it is located. Maybe not so "artistic" .
Be aware that aluminum and thread sometimes don't live well together. Aluminum has a tendency to "gall". basically it scuffs itself. Light grease will ease the problem, but no guarantees.
