I've been using a 3", 3-jaw chucks on my 5C indexer, but recently I kept running into situations where I could use a bigger chuck. Looking around, seemed like all that were available were 4" 5C chucks. I finally found what I was looking for...Bison 5C-to-6" chuck adapter for $283.65 and the matching Set-Tru Bison 3-jaw chuck for $907.74...plus shipping. :yikes:
A lot more looking, and I came up with a 5C fixture mount with a 6" flange for $62.17 from Victory Machine, and a 6", reversible, plain-back, Shars chuck for $119.85 from Discount Machine, including shipping. Turned the flange face to match the chuck recess, with no room to spare for the bolt holes. Runout is less than 0.002". Total of $182.02. )
I have been laying up fiberglass for fuel tanks in my 42 foot troller.
But, while waiting between layers I laminated up this tool post for
use in cutting off stock. I have to fine tune it to dead center. And I need
to add a block on this side of the blade. But it is already much more rigid
and takes no time to index for dead center.
I just finished making a milling attachment for my Grizzly lathe. I used an angle plate, the factory compound rest and an 8 x 8 inch piece of 3/4 plate from the scrapyard. I had no way to make T-slots so I tapped the plate with a pattern of 3/8-16 threaded holes to match my clamp set.
I made a fly-cutter today. As shown in the picture it is used in the lathe chuck. I am intending to thread the shank so I can fix it to faceplates. There is a blank made to the same dimensions to act as a counter weight for the faceplace set up.
