Rescuing an abandoned Diesel 12 valve in Europe

Today i continue sanding the primer. I managed to smooth 2 panels. Also i've been looking for some parts with little luck, this being older car people that dismantle them don't car for the interior parts, also they don't seem to know the names of any of the parts, a bit strange.

Well no you're not seeing double, i bought another 406 in the same color but this time a solune not a wagon. Just as i got home a new advert for car parts pop up only few kilometers from me. Call the guy, older fellow said it has a bad engine but rest is in good shape. I need couple of parts for my 406 that i can't buy new so i moved couple appointments grab my tool kit and went there. Almost all the part i needed are in good shape including the dashboard. He was giving me good prices but when we come to the dash he wasn't willing to do the work to remove it. Then he told me the story why is it in that shape, he filled at the nearby petrol station and the attendant fill him with gasoline and its a diesel car. He got it out on the highway and the car was pulling much harder than normal but mid way started making noise and smoking. Turn around took it to a shop they told him it blow the turbo. So he left it they replaced the turbo with a new for 20 000 denars but when they fired it, it still smoked and run bad. Then they sold him a new battery for 5500 dinars probably because they killed the old one from cranking. He only pay them for the new turbo and got the car towed home. At home he got his buddy mechanic to take the fuel injectors out and apply air in the cylinders and seen that probably the valves are burnt. Then he decided it's done and check the fuel and found it more than half full with gasoline. His grandchild put an advert for car parts and i was the first to show up. Back to the dashboard i asked can i take it out he said yes but not here, he doesn't want his neighbors to make big deal. Then he changed his tone and said why don't you buy the entire car. I told him i dont have the space for an entire car. He keep giving me lower and lower prices and trowing in more staff, like the new battery, 4 michelin summer tires, until he said holding the bill for the new turbo, just give me what i paid for the turbo. At that point i looked at the winter tires they are 95% new and i shook his hand. So for less then 400$ i bought it. We went to my attorney transferred the title and i call a buddy to turn the steering wheel and i towed it home to the big garage. This car has the smaller 1,9 td engine and some very weird spec, like its an A/C car with manual mirrors, big brakes up font that someone has put smaller brake discs and drums at back. It will be a parts car that i have to take apart in a day or two and get the body shell scraped so i'll free up space. It has very low mileage even lower then the wagon.

It seems i've jumped from the frying pan into the fire. Now both my garages have peugeot 406 in them and i don't have any space to work. So the parts car needs to become parts as quickly as possible. I only had an hour before a meeting so i decided to give me a head start for tomorrow. First i did my systems check, noted down everything that works and broken thing can go straight in the bin. First thing to take off was the front bumper, only 1 bolt holding it. Then the hood, a bit tricky by myself but menangble. Then the wipers and plastic around them. Then i moved on the the rear, because i recently take apart one 406 i know where all the bolts are, so the wheels come off inerefenders, bumper, trunk lid, lights fuel filler and the trailer hitch. At this point i had to stop, take a shower and continue on a different thing. There was times that i could drive a car in at 9 am by 9pm it will be taken apart stored and body ready for taking to the crasher.

Today i spent about two hours dismantling this car, all the doors come off. The front suspension put up a fight coming out, i drain all the fluids. This car has had a power steering leak long time, suprasing how much dirt has accumulated. Taking out the dash board was something i wanted to do but too many other things to do. Tonight after the sun comes down i'll carry out all the doors one by one in the sheds, my back will hurt tonight.

With the body parts removed i need place to store them, but i'm full all my storage buildings are full. I have one shed modified last year but the ground is not usable i need to make a wood floor so i order couple of pallets. With nothing to do i decided to look thru my car audio parts and picked me some parts, like speakers, amp but when it comes to the radio i can't decide. The nippon reads DVD and it has video output, the panasonic has much better outputs and more channels, any preference?

Either of them have a USB input for your phone?

If not, then I'd go with the Panasonic, can't recall when I've ever watched a DVD in the car

With the body panels out of the garage can continue with taking apart this car, the dash come out, seats come out. Then i moved to the engine, the bottom panel that supports the radiator was fithy but stright, so i drill out the 12 spot welds and took it out, it's not dented or rusty, it will be keep as a spare. Then i got my engine crane set up pulled the engine and gearbox but, with all the engine mounts out the crane started to lean and lean. The left leg of the crane had started to buckle i quickly trow couple of clamps to keep it from topoling. With few hard pulls i managed to remove the engine and set it a side. The engine has a new turbo, i may investigate it more also the exhaust has its catalytic converter. With the engine out you can see how big is the engine bay, can some image how easy it will be to LS swap it, it needs a transmission tunnel and a rear axle. With all the 406 badges at one place you can count how many now i've had my hand on.

What does the crane look like now? Glad you avoided disaster.

Today i got back to taking apart the parts car. The front windscreen was easy to take off, i simply took it off. Who ever installed it never prime the glass so the silicone did not stick. Then i took off the wiring, handbrake and many other small things. With only the fuel tank and rear axle on the body i decided i'll start slicing the body shell in smaller pieces to be able to be carried away by hand. The front crush structures a bit dirty but they are in good shape i decided to keep them, so after i cut them off i carried them to the shead. After them the rear windscreen needed to come out, this one was factory mounted, so i had to run a bicycle cable all the way around to cut the glue. Took it out, got my small angle grinder and cut off the roof skin, new metal is so expensive i can use this piece for a shelf or something. Started cutting the roof posts but run out of cutting stones and had to stop, i'll pick up some on my way back from work.
