What Did You Buy Today?

So I got the package, after measuring it, and weighing it, They added $12 to the UPS price. UPS says it's 24.87 for the dimensions and weight.
I have not heard back from premier since Friday when I asked them about the convenience fee as well.

I'll give them a call, but I find it interesting before I did the transaction I heard back twice on questions within an hour or 3.. And now days and nothing.
So add in a hidden shipping fee of $12 on top of all the other fees.

That must be the “handling” part of s/h.

On top of the $20 to bring it to the office, and the buyers premium and the convenience fee.

Of course I just opened the package, well packed, but one of the live centers is basically a dead center since it's frozen. The riten is in good shape, but it appears to have been modified, the set screw in the back has been removed and a plug stuck in. That's the grease port. Not their fault. But it would have been nice to know that the one live center was not working.

you probably knew that this was going to be ridiculous, right?

Not really. I expected about $30 less. I didn't expect it to be frozen. It will prevent me from doing business with them again.just too rich for me. I'm not the type that has to have anything. I can do without.

a few pages back, someone posted a Hardinge-Sjogren speed chuck for collets they had purchased. I commented that I had previously been looking at them also, but that finding one in 5C with an L-1 spindle mount was very rare. this prompted me to search ebay again and low and behold, only the 2nd one I've ever seen was listed.

I made a lowball offer as I had already gone to the trouble of doing an L-1 mount for my little 5" Bison 5C chuck. low and behold, they accepted it. and I received it this afternoon. amazed at the condition. the rubber or plastic grip is almost perfect, the 6" diameter mounting threads are perfect, the spinning mechanism for tightening and loosening the collets is butter smooth.

my entire set of 5C collets are Hardinge, so this is rather fitting. this thing is heavy as all get out, mainly due to the massive L-1 chuck mount.

Great find.
I found one a while back too. I now have this type plus the Jacobs rubber flex collet chuck.

The new back plate for my Bison 4 jaw arrived today.
Looks like I will have to turn down the face OD about .250 and take quite a bit off the thickness of the spindle (hub) end.
Is this normal to have to do this on the spindle end? It will only engage about 2 or 3 threads of spindle the spindle as is before I run out of space.
According to the spec's of the plate there is .50" material before the threads start.

I had to do this on a chuck adapter; see this post:
