Similar thing when I was moving my shop to a new building. They wanted over $6K to set a 3 phase transformer. Power line was already there. A contractor told me who to contact @ the power company. That contact told me to list all intended 3 ph equipment and estimated hours of running. He said "be generous with your estimates." They set a 3 ph transformer for free! 10 years later they had to replace it with a larger one as I kept adding equipment. They also changed the meter to the "demand" type. We had to be careful not to start bigger equipment simultaneously. The electric rate for the entire month is based on the highest demand for even a very short time. The largest motor was 40HP but there were machines with multiple motors that we started in sequence so each was up to speed before starting the next.Started up a light manufacturing operation in a warehouse in the mid 90’s that only had single phase and we needed 3
at 220 single phase its like 33 amp draw? ive got at most 50 amps in my garage for everything, and thats if we arent doing laundry lolThat must have been a very large 10HP phase converter.....
I opted for a 10 HP RPC . $1680 from Wilke Machine in York Pa . Still have all the paperwork somewhere in my files .
Yes , they were . They had some top quality machines back in the days .Hey, I remember Wilke! Mostly woodworking machines, but I got my Taiwanese 8” (maybe 9”?) lathe there - wish I still had it.
