What Did You Buy Today?

Strictly speaking this has been a purchase over a few weeks.
Six weeks or so back I bought a backplate and small surface plate from a local fellow.
A couple of weeks later he messaged me asking if I knew anyone that wanted a lathe project.

Being the curious sort I asked what kind of lathe.
A Busy Bee DF-1237G but it needed repairs.

It’s in excellent condition with no visible wear. Two chucks and both the steady and follow rests.

While changing the drive belt they broke the counter shaft casting.

I decided to take it because I figured that I could re-make the bracket with flat stock and I’ll end up with a lathe I know inside and out for total cost of $300.

WOW! $300 bucks, seems like a steal.

I picked up a sack of sorta used and super clean PTD drills to drop in the tool crib. All those drill and tap dispensers are saying, fill me, fill me. They're kinda starting to yell, really. And doing it while I'm trying to sleep. Once I hand feed these to all the clamoring little drawers, we'll see how long that shuts them up.

Well due to nobody’s fault but my own, I purchased these items. Luckily they all seem to be in pretty good condition. But after returning home, and doing some price checking, I found that I either paid the same as new, or too much for all of it. Lol.
Either way, it’s mine now. Better luck next time!
The guy did have three lathe chucks in need of lots of work he’d sell for $25 each. I’m glad I left those behind. Lol

I was lucky. Happened to be looking for something else on Craigslist and this popped up - having been only listed for one hour. I paid him what he was asking -$250 no haggling. Came with a dozen extra blades, most of them new.

I cut some 1-1/2" aluminum round this morning. Straight, no problems. The hydraulic damper doesn't seem to regulate at all, I will probably need to tinker with that to get it operating correctly. Coolant pump works fine. The whole unit needs to be pitched so that the coolant drains without overflowing the tray near the back corner.

So...another project at some point - a stand or table for the hacksaw.

What I did and didn't buy over the last few days for one of this weekend's projects. I didn't buy a wiper kit for my Lagun FT-2S. Lagun sent me a quote for $375 with a warning that they don't make them for my mill anymore so I'd likely have to modify them and drill and tap new holes. I can't help but wonder if the parts person who sent the email was laughing when she sent it. Wowzers.

My wipers are rubber. The ones on the knee weren't too bad, but the ones on the table were deteriorated and gummy. I bought a 12" square of 1/8", medium hardness neoprene from McMaster for $30 and a hole punch set from Amazon for $20. They didn't come out perfect, but they work plenty good enough. We'll see how they hold up and if medium was the right choice. Being a hobby guy, my guess is they will outlast me.

The punch set is about what I expected for $20, but the 5/16" got the job done. These will not hold up well under regular use, but the occasional use, they'll do.

Not new but rather new to home . Brought home my Proto socket set from work last Monday with only one socket missing . 6 mm deep dish went missing when I dropped the entire set off the cart . I have 2 rolling carts , a Vidmar and a Kennedy Mechanics top box to bring home . Each is filled ( really filled ) and room at the " Inn " is tight at the moment . The basement will have to be somewhat organized this week due to a large scale project next week . Getting to be yard sale time in a few weeks and looking forward to it . :encourage:
