Actually the Igaging (available 10 years ago) were far superior to almost every other Chinese caliper. Long battery life and accurate, as well as absolute. I still don't own a Mit caliper, Mics yes, but caliper no.
I know everyone love the electronic calipers, but for some reason I still love my Starrett Dial Caliper. It is only six inches and would love to have a 12" caliper.

I learned how to use a caliper on a Vernier type. Very accurate. Just don't seem to trust electronic systems which is silly I know. Just can't shake the start of the digital world and how poorly they were back then.

Vernier should always be accurate, DIAL??? no, there's to much that can wear over time. Electronic, should remain accurate longer than Dial unless an electronic component goes wonky. I like analog for being able to see the dial, I actually would prefer it at times over the digital numbers flying by, it's easier to see RELATIVE distance. But for just static measurements, digital is where I am at now for calipers for machining. Not for woodworking.

I also loved the dial calipers. I have both a Starrett and a Mitutoyo. The Mitutoyo still works fine, but the Starrett at some point in its life and was (lent out) dropped and damaged. I didn't know it had been damaged for some time after it was returned. Suddenly it was no longer repeatable. Upon disassembly it was obvious a tooth was broken on the rack gear. There was enough left attached to the stem for it to work for several months. It finally gave up and would skip when that tooth came in contact with the rack.

At the time the repair shops wanted more than I paid for the unit to repair it. It seems that as of this point in time new replacement parts are no longer available. I keep my eyes open for parts doners, but so far all I've found have similar problems.

In recent years I've gone to the Mitutoyo digitals. I like the fact that you can switch from imperial to metric at the push of a button.

Have to wonder if B@Ss are similar to the Starretts as far as the inards ?

I'm pretty sure even the $5 chinese dials are the same as the name brands (at least design wise, not quality wise!).

Speaking of dial. I have a "garage" dedicated chinese dial caliper. (It was free, so keep it around for quick checks in the dirty garage.).
Checking it against gauge blocks, it's actually right on. As far as I can tell, it's good to a few tenths.

I on the other hand, am off by .025" occasionally when using it! I like the digitals because they save me that embarrassment... ;)

Got two Derale 15300 cooler cores and two 1/2" HD particulate filter and water separator w/auto drain. One set for each of the air compressors that I have. To pair with the filters I recently got... trying to get drier air on the cheap...

Have you looked into making a silica gel dryer? Media is pretty cheap, and you can even dry it out in the oven to recycle it (or so I've heard, haven't done it yet...).
