What Did You Buy Today?

Actually the Igaging (available 10 years ago) were far superior to almost every other Chinese caliper. Long battery life and accurate, as well as absolute. I still don't own a Mit caliper, Mics yes, but caliper no.
I have an igaging digital protractor that eats batteries faster than these calipers. It only gets used once in a while, so I just pull the battery as soon as I'm done with it.

So, maybe it depends on the individual unit???

I went back to dial calipers a long time ago, because the only digis that held a charge were made of gold pressed latinum and cost a week's CNC operator pay. This week I ordered some optical scales from Ditron and they asked if I wanted some of their new calipers. I flipped through their new offerings and picked two different ones from the top of their catalog that are IP57 and take CR2032 batts instead of the carpy SR44 that lasts a day. They seem to think they've figured out the trick to making better cheapies. I'll find out next week. Oh, the calipers were $10 each. Hopefully it's a nice add-on, they look a lot better than the HF junkers I left at the welding table.

I can't speak for the protractor, I have a digital General protractor, and a tilt box (beall) inclinometer for at least 10 years each.
I pull the battery on the protractor because I hardly use it. The tilt box I have never replaced (too much to unscrew) the batteries yet, I don't use it often, but it keeps going.

Maybe this is a what did you do today...but we're on subject here.
There, now it's fixed!

For kicks I put a pair 4" of gauge blocks on the surface plate to check them. And for sanity compared the block stack to something else. (Yeah, I know bad practice to leave things on a surface plate...my bad)

Not saying these are 'out of spec' but something to keep in mind when buying lower cost measurement tools.

This one is coming.

I might just exercise one of the anvils, and smash it with a hammer. Smashing with a hammer would be good therapy! :)

Nice Calipers you have coming!

The comment about smashing with it a hammer reminds me of my dad. He had just changed the battery in his watch just a few days before, it quit again. He took it off and smashed it with a big hammer.

He said "There, now I feel better"

Strictly speaking this has been a purchase over a few weeks.
Six weeks or so back I bought a backplate and small surface plate from a local fellow.
A couple of weeks later he messaged me asking if I knew anyone that wanted a lathe project.

Being the curious sort I asked what kind of lathe.
A Busy Bee DF-1237G but it needed repairs.

It’s in excellent condition with no visible wear. Two chucks and both the steady and follow rests.

While changing the drive belt they broke the counter shaft casting.

I decided to take it because I figured that I could re-make the bracket with flat stock and I’ll end up with a lathe I know inside and out for total cost of $300.
