What Did You Buy Today?

Well it arrived safe and sound and moved into the shop with no dramas. The company I hired was very professional and would highly recommend them. So I have been on the look out for a smaller HBM for the shop for years. They just don't pop up that often. You can find large HBM's all day long. The smaller ones sell fast. This one came out of a shop in Northern Mississippi. The seller is down sizing and slowly getting out of it. He bought it in 2010. It is a Defiance #5. 3.5" spindle with an MT5. Came with tooling too. Happy to finally find one. Not a 100% sure of the year. Guessing lates 30's early 40"s.

Nice....

And people ask me what I'm gonna make with my 12x36 lathe and baby Bridgeport.

That's the small one ;)

I’m guessing based on what you named the picture that this is a mill :)

Never seen one like that though. Any details about it that I can google and read up on?

(This is probably a very stupid question)

My new 0-100mm Chinesium depth micrometer purchased on Aliexpress. View attachment 453187View attachment 453188
The quality is quite good for a Chinesium measuring tool IMHO.
The funny thing is, screw micrometers aren't that complicated.
As a Freshman in high school we could make a micrometer as a school project. We also made hydraulic bottle jacks. I can't remember what the other possible projects were.

Ok, not machining stuff, car stuff :p

Passed a sale today and I almost didn't stop.

$30. Seems to work perfectly. I didn't have an advance timing light, now I do. The car I was driving had distributorless ignition, so I couldn't hook it up to check rpm, but to my surprise just having the mag pickup on a plug wire told me the rpm.

Funny, this was the only guy thing in the entire sale.
