What Did You Buy Today?

Society decided that it was no longer acceptable for taking care of the home and children as a JOB and the housespouse needed to go out and get a paycheck. Single income families aren't as acceptable as they were "back then".
My dad explained it to me. Once banks decided they could have two incomes on a mortgage....

Yes, that's the problem
As a single person, shopping for a mortgage, I have to make 3X minimum wage to be able to afford a new, lower tier, house.
Especially with mortgage rates coming in just below 8% these days.
I think 4% would be a good compromise but then the market would just price the houses higher. It won't stop til people stop paying these outrageous prices for a place to lay their head.

Auction score. New Buck 8” set true.

Got a Shars back plate. Actually pretty reasonable, and way cheaper than a Bison, or Buck.
took an hour to get it fit to the spindle. Got it blued up nicely and turned the pilot and face to less than a 10th runout.

Housing prices are high. Lots of factors driving that. Interest rates the last few years didn't help.

First house I bought was a the nice low rate of 10%. My parents had to borrow for their home at ~13%.
8% is way more normal than 4%. I don't think we'll see sub 4% again any time soon, maybe ever.
(I'm locked in at something stupid low. Which I thank covid for, every single payment.)

I hope that you are wrong on the rates staying high. I can remember back in the early 80's, 12% was not unheard of. We were just starting out back then. Our last home we were around 3%. Don't remember the actual number.

We are looking for our retirement home and state. While the high rates have cause a small drop in housing price, the offset is a much higher payment for the same home with the current rates.

I am hoping that once we do get into our home, that the interest rates will come down eventually. Something that many, including me, believe will happen. Not to get into the politics here, something for a different time and place. While my budget can handle the current rates, it certainly has a big impact on the cushion in my budget.

I guess we will see.

Got this the other day for around 45 bucks from the bay , a Starrett 2-3 . This was a mile stone for me because it completes my set , 2-3 is as far as I'm going . I've been looking for about 2 years to get the 3 that I wanted , it took me that long because I had a few things to go by . First it had to be Starrett , no ratchet , no break , carbide face and low price . Next I'm going to repair all the scribed on writing .

I'm really disappointed. I was going to taunt you with the 3-4 I have.
I went to take pictures and the stupid thing is an old Craftsman in a Starrett box. What's worse is that it's a 4-5 box.
