Viability of welding cast cross slide tool post?

My old Atlas came to me with a broken and repaired top slide. It was functional, but I eventually replaced it for $45 delivered off eBay. Lots of Atlases get parted out and sold there, might be worth a look.

I think it’s just a matter of patience. Something I have a really hard time with. Which is why I’m in the spot to begin with. Always tell my kids to learn from their mistakes. Do I though….
