Hi all,
As the title says, I’ve a 9x21 Logan lathe.
I’d like to find a better tool post holder for it, at one time I “kinda knew” of some that were supposed to work.

But years have passed and been dealing with what was modified to work on it.

Any suggestions for me?

If memory serves, the lathe is late 50’s/early ‘60’s.

Thanks.

What do you have now?

I’ll get a pic in a bit. Has some shims made for it, etc.
thanks

The AXA size is most often recommended.

Now, just my $.02. I've have had 3 of the better rated Chinese imports. Why? Because each developed problems on the internal Acme thread bolt turned by the locking handle and too much travel. Meaning that when loosened, the handle would cover the tool holder face parallel to the bed used for boring bars etc. It can't be repaired by shiming or anything else that I did a fair amount if research on. Only others with the same problem. So I broke down and purchased an Aloris tool post. Problem solved as true adjustment for the handle lock point is built in.

So my advice, and I'm sure others will disagree, is to grit your teeth, turn your head, and cry once. I've never read if anyone regretting the purchase. It's also my experience that the brand of the tool holder isn't a big deal. I view them like a wood craftsman & clamps. You can never have enough and generally the brand isn't a big deal.

YMMV

If you are interested, your serial number can be checked here .

Thanks, AXA jogs a memory, mercy turn my head and cry;)
Yes, but it will be a "Once & done." Oh, shipping, IMHO, from Alorus was outrageous. I'd check Shars eBay store and other sources. Check Shars and Little Machine Shop for prices so you have a good baseline.

AXA IMO is a bit too big for a 9” lathe. OXA fits better. You will be limited to 3/8” tools most likely. However in my experience that size is plenty rigid enough for that sized lathe.

If you have the funds, pop for real quality. No matter what size you decide to get.

I’ll see if I can attach a pic here, I’m unable to adjust up/down. Maybe a different diameter bit?
