I can beat those stories.
This is absolutely true.
My wife and I went out just to buy a bottle of milk.
Driving past the Suburu showroom we saw a Forrester for sale, end of financial year so a lot cheaper.
We drove it home.
Our daughter is still driving that car and often relates the story as the bottle of milk car.
A similar one, but not to that level of cost was nipping out to the Offy (Off License) for a bottle of milk and coming home with a Raleigh Record LTD Tourer 10 speed bicycle. Missus was NOT impressed, but at a mere £25 I was not going to argue. Still have that bike today and given it isa U.S.A only model spec and being in the UK it is worth up to 10x what I paid for it to the right collector, even found a smaller framed one for the same price as a "spares base". The only pair currently known to be in the UK and I own both of them.
