I'm going to try to make it 5:1 reduction using bevel gears and pinions. Should be a smaller unit also. No angled gear train, just one above the other. Bevel gears have 50 teeth. Pinions have 10 teeth. I ordered them today.

Hi Bill,
It looks the biz to me and something I could make but what would I know I'm only an ex cook.
Now to really stir the pot what about multi speed?? :rofl:
Am I correct in thinking you have a powered cross slide fitted?

Yes Charles, I have a powered the Cross Slide. It is variable speed. Runs off a small windshield wiper motor. I will look up the build, I did it here.

My saddle hand wheel is on the right side of the apron so I will have to see how it would fit.

New parts for the new Wheel Drive Charles.

Pinion carrier is finished. Press fit with a set screw.

Pinions and carrier installed in their block. I'm done today.

The larger gears need to be made into Ring gears with a .5625 bore.

Left side is the original gear. Center is the ring cut. Right is the new hub. Second pic is pressed on ring. It will also be soft soldered.
