Spindle Runout Issues on PM-728VT

Ohhhh boy do I have an update!

The manufacturer in Taiwan sent Precision Matthews a replacement quill assembly, and Matt checked it out personally before sending it my way.

Here's the TIR I measure now:

4 tenths at 9.75" down
1.5 tenths at 5" down

Less then a tenth on the taper of the spindle itself, and ZERO runout vertically (Z-axis). When I blued both the original spindle and the initial replacement spindle, contact was terrible, only touching down near the lip of the taper. On the 2nd replacement spindle (shipped assembled in a new quill), I get contact on the ENTIRE taper.

It's night and day. This went from twice the max error defined by PM to ~1/8 the max error. It far exceeds my expectations.

I think both my original spindle, and the initial replacement were simply ground with the wrong taper angle (maybe NT30?). This is concerning since it was two different spindles with the same issue, but Matt 100% resolved this beyond my expectations. THANK YOU MATT AND EVERYONE AT PRECISION MATTHEWS THAT HELPED ME GET THIS RESOLVED!!
