That thread about what you are listening to brought up something I have been thinking about of late.
I listen to just about everything but country. Sorry, not starting a war, just not what I like.

That said I have a friend who is 23 who has a discord channel were she and her friends share music links, and looking at it I realized that it's finally happened.

I don't like the music they play today! I've officially become an old fart! (61).

There's still stuff out there, that's new and that I listen to, but the current "mainstream" just ain't for me. Had to happen sometime I guess.

We like classic rock and a local station plays a great selection except they have Bob and Tom every day until 10 am.

Only in shop on weekends and yard work in mornings so easy to avoid, can not stand those guys, laugh tracks and other not funny stuff.

My taste in music is very 'eclectic' I suppose... I'll listen to anything except rap...

My playlist ranges from David Allen Coe to Sixx AM to Tracy Chapman to bluegrass gospel...

I don't listen to much rock from the '70s... I used to, but after 40 years of the same 10 songs played over and over, it just... well... got 'old'...

I can't get into 'talk radio' or any of the morning shows... I listen for the music, not to hear four guys trying to talk over each other. And I don't need to hear anyone's political opinions... I have enough of my own!

Most of my playlist is alternative and rock from the mid- 90's to the mid-teens.

That is exactly the point I got to.
I find that when I am in my truck or car I have been listening mostly to podcasts, such as "Hidden Brain" and "This American Life". I like to have my mind engaged and Shankar Vedantam, the host of Hidden Brain", is one of my favorite personalities. I would love to have lunch with him.

I am not seriously "hard of hearing", it's a matter of being unable to resolve a spoken voice. Having been this way since childhood, I have been relegated to listening to instrumental music. Classical is pure instrumental, but so is "Boogie Woogie", "Classical Guitar", "Big Band", "Piano and Sax Jazz", and many other forms of non-verbal music. I like and listen to them all, so long as there is no voice-over.

When I lived in WI. it seemed like all the radio stations played nothing but "oldies". I remember when that meant the 50's, but now it's considered to be 60's thru 80's apparently.

I used to have a SiriusXM subscription, and their playlist is extremely limited, so I can relate to the repetitive nature. I switched to Spotify, and not only is the music quality far better, but I'm discovering all sorts of music that is from that era (or later) but I had forgotten. I have 1200 songs on my liked playlist, and that's just the "conventional" stuff. not boring anymore.

While it's true that I don't really feel the need to kill somebody when the radio is pushing out yet again another 6-song block of Frampton, Heart, Steve Miller, and Fleetwood Mac, I, too, am weary of the music that has been so tolerable for so agonizingly long. They play the Rolling Stones at the CVS pharmacy these days. I even heard Jane's Addiction over the speakers at the Safeway. So my hopes are up that when it's my generation's time to negotiate over stacks of coupons with the checker who was in diapers when I started taking blood pressure meds, I hope I'll be hearing Slayer or some early Megadeth soothing me over the speakers at the drug store. That would be a bright future!
